For the libs in here crying about “second chances for people who change their minds”: give me a fucking break. You are the rubest of rubes. Change you mind, sure, but fucking demonstrate your new conviction!! Words are the stock and trade of the politician. Let’s see some action, or even some non-mincing words. Condemn Israel. Call loudly for prosecution of the entire Israeli regime. There’s ways to convince me, and I haven’t seen anything like it yet. If you take Kamala at her word, be honest with yourself: you didn’t really care when she supported the genocide in the first place.

You know, it’s odd. Whenever anyone suggests that AOC run for president, the refrain from centrists is “A woman of color can’t win!”

Wonder where they went in this thread.

People also say a woman in general can’t win but I say we have never had the opportunity to find out in the US. Not with an actual good candidate anyway.

Isn’t that a bit hyperbolic? We’ve had two women run, neither of them were perfect, nor even great, but both of them lost to Donald Trump. It feels a bit weird to say that we haven’t had the opportunity to find out if women can win the presidency when the examples are two seasoned politicians vs a self admitted sex offender, convicted rapist, and Israel supporter (instead of just an Israel denialist).

At this point we know that people of color can win, Obama did it, but the last two times a woman ran for President they lost to the same terrible person. At a certain point you have to ask,

        • 1.) is it because they are a woman,
        • 2.) Is it because they’re a bad candidate,
        • 3.) Is the system so gerrymandered that they can’t win, or
        • 4.) is there something wrong with the left in which they can’t get there shit together and push through a candidate that is at least better than the opposition?

The fact that we’re honestly looking at a potential 3rd Trump term, or the slightly more palatable option of JD Vance, vs literally anyone else is mind boggling and to me it points to #4. I don’t care who it is on the opposing ticket, AOC, Harris, or the fucking Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. The Democrats aren’t doing much to improve the country, but at least they aren’t actively trying to ruin it.

Considering that the centrist wing stops saying a woman can’t win when people talk about Harris running again, but use her and Clinton as evidence that women can’t win when people talk about AOC running, it sure looks like your wing of the party is just trying to block a progressive from running.

I personally believe it’s #2. I literally never met any true Democrat IRL that was happy about either Hillary or Kamala running for their policies that wasn’t under the age of like 50. The feminism in power thing can only get you so far… I did however hear from plenty of critically online people on Reddit downvoting and or MODs banning me when I talked like they weren’t our presidential savior because they had a vagina or something?

The same goes for Biden for that under 50 thing in my experience irl btw.

My point is, the DNC sucks. They have picked bad primary candidates for many years now. I personally don’t think it’s their plumbing, it’s because they were bad candidates. I could be wrong but to me, there’s no telling that until you have a woman run as Democrat that isn’t a centrist claiming to be a leftist.

Lmao what fucking record? So weird! That was a stretch don’t you think? I never said I didn’t vote for them but this isn’t really about me, it’s about the general public. Personally, no I don’t believe a fat pedo rapis is a better candidate but obviously the general public does or they wouldn’t have lost. That doesn’t change the fact that they ARE shit candidates. They were then and they are now.

What the last many presidential elections should have taught the DNC by now is they can’t do what you just did because it obviously no longer works. The lesser of two evils argument has literally cost the Democrats the presidential election more times than not in my lifetime. Kerry, Hillary, and Kamala fell short for that exact reason while Biden stumbled in incoherently just like Trump did twice.

The “for the record” was just to refresh what #2 was since you didn’t quote it yourself.

this isn’t really about me, it’s about the general public… That doesn’t change the fact that they ARE shit candidates. They were then and they are now.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt here because that’s a valid stance (your opinion vs the apparent public opinion) and I’ll agree that they are bad candidates. However, by that logic I would argue that #2 isn’t the answer then because as you said both are bad candidates and surely Trump is not a better candidate than Hillary or Harris? Would you agree with that?

As I said, revenge over progress, ignoring reality for your own feelings of having the moral high ground for wanting to give them “what they deserve”.

A feeling that you are better than them for wishing upon them the same that they did to everyone else.

A lack empathy or sympathy, but being full of revenge, will take you nowhere useful for anyone but the ones that want us to see a different enemy than the top 1%.

Just like when right wing politicians blame immigrants for everything so you won’t blame the 1%, you were convinced to blame American citizens instead of the 1%.

it’s worth remembering the was one of the first to withdraw her presidential bid in 2020 because it was abundantly obvious no one was interested. she was selected as Joe Biden’s running mate to make him look more progressive than he was and to groom her for the national stage. it is abundantly clear now that the nation at large is not interested for a variety of reasons. the left sees in her the conservatism of the democratic party over the last 40 years. the right sees a variety of things depending on how their brains are broken:

The American left needs to fall out of love with cannibalism.

I don’t care why Harris wants to do the right thing now.

Allow people to save face and change their positions - attacking them for “flip flops” is to say “No reasonable adult should ever change their mind about anything” which is not only bananas, but discourages people from doing critical thinking because they’d face humiliation for reversing course.

She won’t flip. She knows why the USA formed Israel, and that the USA supports what Israel is doing for its long term strategic goals.

Why do you think we provide Israel with billions of dollars every year? It’s not charity

Just like Biden virtually ignored his platform of minimum wage increase once he took office (not even one standalone bill), Harris may use Israel to gain office, but she won’t actually do anything against Israel should she win.

I 100% believe that she and everyone in the Biden administration knew that Israel was committing a genocide with Biden’s enthusiastic help. She didn’t have the courage to speak up even after Biden was out of the picture. The complete fecklessness of centrist Democrats has gifted America years of Republican control.

She had ample opportunities to do good and to stand by higher moral standard. There is a difference between messing up on political technicalities (I thought this was a good idea, I don’t anymore) and failing on core principles.

Also I think it’s fair to avoid people who have failed a lot, sure they might have learnt from it, but maybe they are just not very smart and competent at that job ?

The problem is trust. They can say whatever the hell they want if they think it’s gonna get them elected but then not follow through. I’m not gonna trust someone who up until now thought killing children was totally cool. I’m also not going to trust someone who’s been taking corporate money, especially if they still are.

Would it be nice if they changed their position? Sure. But why does it need to be them in power? There are over 300 million people in this country. There are plenty of them that never thought killing children was cool. Plenty who have never taken corporate political donations. Plenty who better represent the majority class. Teachers, union organizers, former baristas, etc. A lot of them could do a better job than these opportunistic ghouls. Why do we need the same rotating cast of legacy politicians constantly getting into power when they’re the people who got us here in the first place?

Besides, we shouldn’t need to reward them for eventually coming around to the right position if it’s a genuine belief and not just trying to catch the shifting political winds. If it’s genuine, good for them! Even setting aside the effect these beliefs have on other people, it must be truly toxic to the soul to believe in such callous things. May they go on to live a happier life way the fuck away from all of us. Actually, if they want to go back some actual socialists, I’d be cool with that too.

EDIT: Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, it’s fine if people who weren’t gov officials with a hand in the genocide want to change their positions. Saying Kamala and those like her were “cool” with genocide is woefully understating what they did. They participated in it. Regardless of any change in views, these are people who all deserve to be put on trial for what they’ve done. Let them think about it from inside a jail cell.

Didn’t say I wanted to vote for her, but anybody is better than the Trump administration right now. A pile of rocks would do less damage than this administration.

The problem is that, due to the structure of our political institutions, you cannot trust that they have truly changed their opinions. It is far more likely that they are providing lip service in order to obtain a position of power and authority.

Do you have anything resembling a coherent argument for why “politicians changing their stance” is gaslighting?

Isn’t this what conservatives do all the time to defend pedophile in charge, well knowing he’s is a racists, misogynist, fraud and pedophile?

But if Trump says he isn’t, he must be telling the truth and that’s supposed to be a good thing, and considered personal growth, right? right?

Please don’t be this gullible. It’s bonkers, it even has to be said. Actions speak louder than words.

Saying what people want to hear is what they’re fucking trained to do.

Of that doesn’t ring a bell, then oh well.

Sucks when that happens doesn’t it? They all have valid points, but nobody ever reads the responses before responding themselves. So you wind up getting 5 people saying the same thing.

The joke is that she’s a two-faced and insincere person. She’ll take whatever position she thinks will let her win without believing in it for a second. Essentially, a poseur.

Yeah. I believe all hierarchical systems filter for such people. Ideally they are more convincing and delude even themselves, while still always choosing what is most beneficial for their own advancement. So it’s important to reject self serving people like Harris.
