No you don’t need an additional account. You can follow communities from wherever** you are.

If you copy the whole URL into the search and wait second it should work for communities your instance did not know about.

These instructions are about the webinterface. I think the jerboa app just does not work this way. You might be lucky and just enter the name of the community/subreddit into the jerboa app search.

If it does not work just use the webinterface for subscription.
