Lemmy isn’t the only Threadiverse server implementation, though it’s the most-widely used. There’s kbin, of which kbin.social is the largest instance, mbin, of which fedia.io is the largest example – and the user you’re talking to is on fedia.io – and some others.
Maybe its communities but that’s a bit weird too because in the end it’s more the ActivityPub protocol that we all share the use of. Ultimately I’m neither on Lemmy nor Mastodon, but their content gets federated with the platform I’m using.
Until you realize some of these long time users are likely sockpuppet accounts of said devs.
But I find it rather funny and in the end their political believes while themselves sitting right in the “imperial core” are harmless. Armchair tankies.
Rofl. I was wondering why I couldn’t see the other reply to you, and realized it might because I already blocked that user. Went to incognito, and yep, blocked that rabid user a while ago.
I recommend doing the same. I forgot “Global South” was even a term used here.
I am really tired to hear “Global South” over and over again.
We are perfectly aware that beneficiaries of colonisation (like you) would like us here in the Global South to just shut up and give you our resources and labour for absolutely nothing - so there’s no need to say the quiet part out loud, okay?
That said, my thing with “Global South” is that it pretends the country with the highest GDP in the world is an “underdog”, and it tries to sell that through its supposed tight alliance with its less fortunate members. By what measure is China or Russia “the South”? Maybe it’s just them trying to sell that they are so oppressed.
And their alliance is so tight that Putin wasn’t allowed on the latest BRICS summit because ZA thought their ties with the ICC are more important than Putin.
It’s just an “actually, we are the victims” circlejerk, based on some fragile semi-alliances and pretending that China is not absolutely dominating the whole thing.
Russia certainly was after the fall of the USSR - whether it still is is open to debate. China is an active exploiter of the “Global South” - which kind of means the concept is overdue for an update.

Nahh, they didn’t want another repeat of the al-Bashir debacle. South Africa’s ANC regime will bend over backwards for the west and especially western corporations - but the US forgot that they will only do so behind closed doors.
This is why I’ll personally never donate to the Lemmy devs. I could never bring myself to fund a tankie.
It’s not the only one but one of the bigger reasons why I don’t use Lemmy.
I’m glad we don’t use Lemmy, oh wait
I literally don’t.
How am I reading this comment then?

Mbin is IIRC a fork of kbin aimed at getting features in more-quickly.

Those guys are written in PHP.
There’s PieFed, which is in Python:

Sublinks, which is in Java:

Oh, interesting! Thanks for enlightening me!
Because our servers & software that we’re using are federated.
Well you use it passively at least.
Although that also means you technically use Mastodon.

What a time to be alive.
If you post a comment to a Lemmy instance, are you using Lemmy?
Federation
Only if I do it through Lemmy (the software). Or would you say you are on mbin because you replied to my comment?
Hmm, probably not. If I was on a community based on mbin though, maybe?
I didn’t let that prevent me from using Lemmy, however, I found that I liked Mbin a lot better. Fedia.io has become my favorite forum type website.
They seem fairly chill as far as I can tell. Its some of the long time users that are the problem

It is pretty exhausting fighting their subtle tankie arguments over and over, lest someone more impressionable only see their bullshit and believe it.

Lol, I grew up on a Russian colony. Was not fun.

Pretty sure that the guy you’re talking to is from a small country somewhere in Eastern Europe.
Well, I don’t know. I just know that the devs seemed nice and friendly in the QA
Ironically enough, there’s some actual McCarthyism going on in here.
Is the McCarthyism in the room with us now?
Okay sockpuppet boi
