Idk, man. As political prisoners go, he’s looking reasonably well taken care of.

Glad he’s in a Brooklynn jail than one in Texas or Florida. Dude would probably have been Epstein’d by now if he was kept in a Red State.

But even beyond that, it’s a Federal Prison. What do they think the city’s mayor is going to do? Ask Jessica Tisch to order the NYPD to bust in and release him?

Yeah the premise is pretty flimsy. Can’t really hold the mayor of one city responsible for the shittiness of the federal government.

While I do agree with this general sentiment, I do believe it would mean a lot, politically, if people like AOC, Bernie, Zohran; “the new progressive faces of the American left” would provide atleast some lip service instead of lying on the Right wings behalf about Maduro. Party that believes optics are always oh so important is kinda dropping their ball on the optics front, atleast when it comes to what modern leftists in America need.

When he was kidnapped I saw all kinds of people (yes, mainstream democrats, too) lying about his “stolen undemocratic election” and then even taking to using the Disgusting sanctions on Venezuela to denounce Marxism / Socialism itself and use Maduro as another “authoritarian communist dictator that kills, forces/ leaves no choice but emigration, and steals elections”

I saw it happen with Venezuela, then Iran, now Cuba… I just can’t help but feel these DSA candidates once in office drop their more important rhetoric for lukewarm liberal policies.

I mean, how long until we get Zorahn denouncing communism? Don’t hold your breath, little demsoc / socdems …

A lot of it simply isn’t worth debating in a media that’s suffocated with fascist rhetoric.

When you know the only coverage you’re going to get is “Politician defends Baby Eating Terrorist, flees confrontation with half-eaten baby when confronted” there’s no yield in engaging a Steven Crowder tier interviewer on the subject.

Staying on message on local issues plays better in the long run. And deflecting from “How do you feel about all the Dead Venezuelan Babies that socialism created?” to “I’m busy filling potholes on 47th and Main, where we’re also throwing a pizza party and handing out baby blankets to new moms and college scholarships to telegenic high schoolers. Why won’t you let me talk about that?” is just the standard - highly effective - retail politics that make someone like Zohran or AOC have sky high local approval numbers.

It sucks that we can’t have any kind of serious conversation about foreign policy. But I’m not going to blame that on the heart-of-gold socialist currently getting heckled by a news anchor with a swastika tattoo on his forehead.

I respectfully disagree that we should let fascists frame our politics. That’s how we end up never moving on from red scare politics dominating. I don’t think it’s effective to hand wave away literal pedophiles framing gay people as predators, black people as inherently violent, Muslims as terrorists and leftists as anti-democratic.

I’m not talking about a “Steven crowder type” operative I’m talking about the messaging as a whole. DSA did not lie about these things specifically to a right winger, they were saying it unprompted on their own platforms.

The proof of the contrary is right there and these people (DSA) already face flak for what they say, why is it necessary for them to lie about socialism? The socialism in their name is what GOT THEM THIER HIGH APPROVAL RATING. Not thier cults of personality, not Hasan piker, their socialist policy.

There’s a difference between staying silent about communism or whatever and then openly lying for the gain of the right wing. When it comes to any other country, Dems, even DSA demonizes actual socialism and then tells you to vote for people with literal Nazi tattoos.

To me, It comes off as libs LARPing as socialists and it’s starting to get more and more obvious.
