How do you get bored talking about Mesoamerican archeology?

Admittedly, if I was upset at everyone being on their phone, I might be a little disappointed to discover my bus-mate was a Human Podcast. But I’d definitely be one of the people on the phone listening to some Trans-baddie tell me about mayors or James Bond movies or engineering disasters to begin with.

See, in that moment I would’ve pulled out my unfinished thesis about climate cycle influences on social and technological advances across pre-Columbian civilizations.

I mean, you never know, you know?

A more recent one is breaking down the intersection between gender swap manga and actual queer media. A lot of gender swap stories aren’t really queer, and there’s a strong compcishet bias amongst the genre’s fans. Somehow, they refuse to comprehend that a character transforming into another gender might have transgender undertones. They even try to deny it when a gender swap story is more obviously trans coded.

It’s fascinating how genderswap stories intersect with the industry trends of different countries (for example, Japanese genderswap manga tend to be very fetishistic as a result of needing to carve out a niche in a market aimed at young boys). There’s also a world of difference between action oriented gender swap media and more domestic series (most isekai stories are a power trip of a dude in a girl’s body for marketing purposes, while domestic series are more likely to seriously tackle issues of gender and identity). Very few gender swap stories really give me what I’m looking for, yet I keep wading through slop in the hopes of finding gold. Even the ones I kinda like I’m embarrassed to show, as so many of them have a base level of pervy nonsense.

And which ones have ya been enjoying? I personally don’t mind some baseline perv. Tho, I rarely watch anime, latest watch was s2 of frieren. I really enjoyed the starting romance between the Stark and Fern. Tho, that’s just speaking as a man that’s been on Starks place.

Are you familiar with Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl? I remember reading most of it in middle school and I think it was the first time I was exposed to the idea that someone’s transition could be accepted by others as something normal as the initial shock of the gender swap at the start wore off.

What’s a “domestic series” in this context? Like a US manga (sorry for assuming you’re USian)? Or a Japanese manga aimed at a Japanese audience, which somehow doesn’t apply to almost all Isekai?

Domestic means related to the home. We also use it to mean related to the home_land_, but that’s a secondary meaning (though that’s probably the more common usage nowadays).

Than make a different account for that stuff. (And that’s why my account conglomerate is growing)
