This just happened and I’m not certain if this was a fair dismissal of a YouTube ad manifesting itself as ethanol or if my neurospicy just fired a nuke at Israel…
Liqueur girls slinging free jager shots at the bar: “want a shot?”
Me: ….no. I’m here to escape the capitalism. Go away.
Bartender: -glares- wut?
Liqueur girls: are you serious?
Me: I know what this is. You are working girls, just not the kind akron appreciates. I enjoy the product, but not the promotion. Please go away.
Bartender: -wide eyed-
Lady bystander: -dies laughing-
Liqueur whores: -furious, stomp off-
DO NOT ADVERTISE TO THE DRUNKEN NEURODIVERGENT
Firing a nuke at Israel…interesting…parallel there.
You can’t use adhd as a shield from the fact that you’re just an asshole lol.
No I was the asshole. I just wanted to be left alone and an advertisement approached me and did not read me. That’s fine, I’m a weird read, but I feel like this was more opening-the-ark-of-the-covenant than I-expected-a-pamphlet.
At the end of the day, they are just doing their jobs and I really do feel offended by any goddamn form of advertisement in my life but implying a woman is a whore is totally different than implying a gay man is a whore. The contexts don’t align.
So I lashed out at an ad. And it was a person. And I feel awful.
You’re in a bar being offered a shot…
No, I’m the bar being offer a specific shot from An entire tray of them, a promotion, an advertisement.
“Why yes, I’ll have a shot of new orange jager, from the makers of jagermeister, jagermeister - this was originally medicine, brought to me by the new ford f250. Ford, because you’re penis doesn’t work probably from the jager. You should drink more jager brought to you by…”
I think this line of thinking is hilariously awesome. Im the lady laughing in the back. I appreciate this lol
I have trouble with communication and often times the intensity knob is higher than it needs to be. Rarely out of anger; it’s just that I get deep into a subject sometimes and feel it. I have to treat it as a constant learning experience.
I also try to always remember that reacting is a choice. Tons of people and topics will be a trigger, but I know that in most cases I can simply remove myself from the equation and the frustration boils off eventually. I had to do that earlier today. I ran into a serial conversation hijacker-killer type in a Slack channel I’m a regular in. When I was talking about a struggle I have with learning and retaining information in the AI age, they instantly hijacked it to make it about them. I could’ve replied casually, lashed out, been passive aggressive. I caught myself, paused, and logged out of the Slack channel. Playing video games for a while brought me back to a more controlled headspace again.
I think I’m at a point where I need a therapist again. This was not okay. I feel like the concerta makes me mean. I’m the Rick Sanchez of my friend group. I don’t think I’m intelligent or capable. I’m just surrounded by idiots frequently so it just seems that way by comparison. But that’s not humble or respectful, it’s the opposite. And it’s mean.
I got on the concerta after vyvance was perfect but I acclimated to it inside a week and it had literally zero effect after that. I thought that I going from perfection to starting over inside a week meant this was going to be an abusable drug and I should try something else but this generic concerta makes me feel just mean all the fucking time.
I hurt those girls because I have a hang up on advertisements and knew exactly where to point a sharp stick without even stopping to think what that meant.
I’m the problem
The fact that you can point all of this out is good. If you were still doubling down and refusing to admit you made a mistake, this would snowball.
I stopped taking a generic med a while back because it made me the same way. I was short with people and I felt angry, but with no identifiable reason. That was the main reason I went back to being unmedicated. It never made me snap at someone, but I knew if I stuck with that medication, it probably would’ve eventually lead to that. It’s like you’re waiting for someone to unload that energy at and there are a lot of things to trigger that response in the world today.
That was not a fair dismissal. However I get where youre coming from. But also, you walked into and sat down at a bar. This is like walking into a barber or salon, and when offered a haircut, say “No thanks, Edward Scissorhands”
I was there in a calm bar with friends. And I do enjoy their product (orange jager, peach vodka, pinnacle whipped, sprite, play with the ratios to taste) is nice and super effective. But I don’t come here to be advertised to and sending attractive women to promote ethanol to men at a gay bar was an interesting choice, but that doesn’t mean the response was proportional. I basically launched a nuke at Israel.
If I was a normal person I would have recognized all this BEFORE I said that.
Instead I made 2 young women feel shame for trying earn a paycheck.
I hate myself.
Meh, don’t hate yourself over it, that isn’t useful.
Also, it’s appropriate to be annoyed at Jaeger for not reading the room and sending attractive girls to a gay bar.
First you gotta let go of harshly judging yourself for this.
Just look at it as another opportunity to reinforce the script you’d like to have in your head instead of the one you followed.
This is a Cognitive Behavioral Technique - we operate on default scripts for stuff, changing the script gives us new ways to respond. For an easy intro to CBT, check out the book “Your Erroneous Zones” by Wayne Dyer (yea, he intended the title as a play on Erogenous Zones).
(I say all this as a misanthropic bastard)
It was a drag night it’s possible that was intentional rather than Tonedeaf.
But you never see literate twinks slinging product around either so it always feels weirdly desperate.
I think that’s the kind of thing that hits me with “reads innaccurate to the situation” vibes, and usually allows me to see the artifice in the actions presented less emotionally.
I actually try to intentionally trigger this when signing up for things online; there’s no reason a commercial company needs my actual real name. So if my name is Michael, I might sign up as Mikey or just M, to remind myself of the artifice being presented ongoingly when they email me for a new promo. Just enough to remind myself that fundamentally its always a sales pitch.
Its more like if you walk into a Barbour Shop and there’s someone handing out free hair gel as an ad?
It would be closer to being offered to spike your hair for free.
That sounds like it has nothing to do with adhd but as you admitted in your other replies you were just behaving like an asshole
Likely, but before the generic concerta that would not have happened.
I’m still trying to process this scene the next day. It was funny, I got the result I wanted, everyone just moved on and was fine.
But it bothers me how angry those girls were. Like I went too far.
They were there as product promotion. Just before drag show giving out shots. And I was so unpleasant they skipped out giving free alcohol to a crowd that would have eagerly accepted it just to get away from me. It wasn’t even in the same room. It was next door. And they just put down the tray and left the building.
To get away from me. Who never even got out of the chair.
I think I went too far, like I countered harassment with bullying.
She’s literally a human popup ad that forced her way into your life, so I agree with the sentiment. I used to be the same way but mellowed out cause I realized I just think differently and its not always worth the effort.
Unlike an ad, she has to pay rent. I’m not wrong, but I’m not sure I was right either.
and then everyone clapped
No. The one girl in the background was dying of laughter. Everyone else was pretty pissed.
Surprised no one died of cringe during the incident
Nah im cringy. Drinking buddies are used to each other.
