Outside the lavish event, workers called out the ‘greed’ in the industry that has left games ‘being sold for parts to make a few people a lot of money’
For those working in games, the problems plaguing the industry are obvious. But how can UVW make it clear that the issues industry workers face affect players, too? “If you’re someone who loves video games, if you are frustrated by games that launch buggy and are delayed messes, if you’re frustrated by games you’re excited about getting cancelled without warning, all of that ties back to what we’re doing here,” treasurer Sherveen Uduwana says. “Giving us layoff protections, making sure bosses can’t take away our healthcare, making sure they can’t replace us with AI – that is going to lead to better games for players and more ambitious, interesting, creative projects. It’s really a win-win for players and a win-win for workers.”
Perfect way to describe it, the golden age of game development has been smashed to pieces.
This is old at this point but the only thing I really think about with AAAA games
It’s pretty widespread across the whole IT industry really. I’m really regretting my career choice. The industry killed my passion for it.
Not to be a Debby downer but I used to work in the game industry and they haven’t said anything new that we didn’t say back then.
There has always been some protest/call for change since I left the industry in 2015. It’s like the film industry, there’s always fresh suckers who will get taken advantage of and those who are burnt out will leave.
I’m politely rooting but I’ve moved on years ago.
Yeah, that’s called capitalism. The greed, the stripmining, the destruction of anything of artistic or moral value for a few penny’s on the dollar: that’s how capitalism is supposed to work.
But guys. This game was made with ONLY 30 people. And keighley is one of us. He let Ms Piggy neg him!
I read this as “He let Ms Piggy peg him!” and y’know, it didn’t immediately set off any alarm bells
Non sequitur
