+1 on checking in Pixelfed. Lemmy -> Instagram isn’t comparable user experience. But given the closing comment about “local stuff and people I know” then odds are they won’t be on Pixelfed either.
I play guitar, watch USMLR and NHL, occasionally brew beer, enjoy live music and travel, and practice sarcasm.

pedantics here, wouldn’t that be a crime against humanity, rather than a war crime, since we’re not at war?
Fender Studio is a newcomer that is free and works on Linux and mobile.

Aside from the hashtag hypothesis, there are multiple timelines on Mastodon: trending, local, and global for example. I’m assuming you didn’t suddenly accidentally start looking at a different timeline but still worth mentioning.

Are you looking at the drop-down for your comment? I’m taking about your account settings. Go to https://lemmy.zip/settings and there should be a list view for Languages that you can multi-select.
Posts and comments where the author doesn’t select a language use undetermined. So you need to also select that to see all those posts.

The language selection on a post/comment doesn’t alter how the content of the post or comment is published. It works in conjunction with the user-level language setting to filter what content other people see. So if you set the language to on your post to Spanish, then the only users who will see it are those who have added either Spanish or Undetermined to the Languages list in their user settings. For everyone who doesn’t have one of those two languages enabled in their settings your post/comment will simply not be displayed.

Just by keeping at it. Lots of posts don’t get a lot of comments, seems like a lot of lurkers. My front page only has one post with >10 comments and the rest are at 3 or fewer. But Reddit is still in the top ten more-visited web sites in the world. So can’t expect the same number of comments compared to the bigger subs there.

This is the one thing I really think Fediverse needs. I shouldn’t have to have a separate identity for each of Lemmy/Mastodon/Pixelfed/Mbin/Piefed/blahblahblah. In theory, ATproto has the PDS which holds your identity and posts and you can host independent from the rest of the platform. In practice, shenanigans on Bluesky over the last few days are showing that even with Blacksky, they are still centrally dependent on the main instance. There’s been quite a few Bsky users picking up on Mastodon, either new accounts or reviving old ones.
Training with weights combined with diet is the best way to lose fat. Cardio exercise is good for cardio respiratory health and helps with calories in/out calculations but adding muscle increases your bodies caloric demand, meaning more fat burn.
As a complete beginner a simple routine of hitting weights twice a week with cardio (30 minutes 2-3 times per week) in between will be plenty. You want to hit each muscle group with 3 hard sets twice a week. A hard set is when you get near (within 2 reps) failure (which means you can’t complete another reporting with good form) with a range of repititions anywhere from 5 to 30.
For a basic full body routine, you want to think about pushing and pulling with arms, legs, and chest/back/shoulders. So bicep curls (pull) and tricep extensions (push), for example. Chest press/fly (push) and rows (pull). Leg curls (pull) and extensions/presses (push). If the gym has a set of circuit machines, use those to start with so you get a feel for the movements.
Look at the Hevy app, which has a free version and has a library of workout routines broken down by beginner/intermediate/advanced and location/equipment (at home, at gym, travel, bodyweight only, dumbbells only, etc). It also has a bunch of community-shated routines.
Diet is going to determine if you lose fat or both fat and muscle. Target about 1 g of protein per pound of bodyweight per day to maintain/gain muscle Split the rest of your calories between unsaturated fats and carbs in whatever way you can maintain. Avoid added sugars. Switch to drinking mostly water, or at least diet soda or carbonated water. Fruit juices, even without added sugars, are loaded with sugar but lack the fiber that is in the raw whole fruit to mitigate the sugar. So don’t switch from soda to an equal volume of fruit juice.
There’s also a metric butt load of good content on YouTube. Channels I like are:
Renaissance Periodization
Jeff Nippard
Jeremy Either
Milo Wolf
Dr Pak

And then larger and larger “handheld” devices made that physically awkward as people tend to hold their phone near the middle to balance the weight and oh look my thumb doesn’t reach the top or bottom anymore!

Clearly a long con by Ukrainians to let themselves be captured and “converted” and conscripted in order to false flag and make Mother Russia look bad
Does AirScan on Linux work to scan-tohcomputer from the device? Or do you have to run [x]sane or some other interactive app on your computer? I’m wanting to use my R Pi as a headless server/backend that a scammer sends to, without having to use any desktop software interactively.

I believe posts are only federated once accounts are followed, and that it is directional. Meaning newandquirky.social doesn’t receive any posts from mastodon.social (for example) until account(s) have been followed and only the followed accounts’ posts (and replies and boosts) are federated. And vice versa.
With the dedicated scanners you’ve tried, which actually work to perform the scanning using the buttons on the scanner instead of running [x]sane or equivalent on your computer?
I’m on an older Synology diskstation (418play) and I found Emby was better packaged to use on that platform. On a Pi I might have gone for Jellyfin instead.
I have gone from 0 to 3 in a short time, and I find myself wanting ones that I currently don’t have the skills to make proper use of…
One of us! One of us! 😅
I feel strongly that I had done simple drag and drop before, but doing some searches it sure sounds like I must be imagining it. I never tried it with Linux. There’s a guitar pedals !guitarpedals@lemmy.world community that you might try cross-posting to.
