God damn, it looks and sounds exactly like I remember from a lifetime ago. Sure, now all those dozens of pixels are stretched over a 4k monitor, but it’s still exactly the same game!

I was also able to run it on Linux pretty easily, despite the warning from Gog that it is incompatible with my system.

  • “relies solely on the player being forced to randomly try every conceivable combination in those insanely cryptic puzzles”

Did you consider that maybe you just missed all the clues that were spread around the island?

I remember having to backtrack many times because I realised the key to a puzzle was in the text in the library or on the painting or in some other place that I recognized but didn’t remember well enough to repeat it without getting back to that place.

  • Her radio wasn’t off-the-shelf hardware. But I bet that her plane wasn’t either. What she tried to do required much more effort and knowledge than just operating off-the-shelf tools.

What I am trying to say is that she wasn’t stupid, she was just not prepared enough for the task.

  • I understand that real men like you want their software to hit them in the face on start-up, and then refuse to do anything until you type SUDO, but LibreOffice UI isn’t even “good” kind of difficult. It’s not like Vim, where once you learn how to use it you become much more productive. LibreOffice is just a plain old mess. You start by selecting one of four UIs, where you need to guess which one actually works (I remember that a basic feature that I needed, after the extensive search, turned out to be unavailable in the UI that I selected at the start).
