  • CalyxOS was founded by someone who worked for the feds through Raytheon, no? I’m doubtful… granted, he got threatened by the FBI, so there’s that.

LineageOS or iodéOS are options, the latter being better if what this summary says is true..

Unfortunately, iodé doesn’t sandbox apps, nor has per-app storage & contact scopes, which are pretty big things. Verified boot is also not thorough, excluding app updates.

And doesn’t Nothing have a privacy policy where the data that they transfer and store, can be outside the EEA/UK? See point 9 there.

Samsung is too big tech for me, so that’s out of the question. Asus would be an option, but the short support is indeed questionable.

Nokia is a possibility, but they got into the AIslop.

  • As far as daily drivers go and if your threat model would say your risk is low, I think Fairphone with e/ is a great choice, yeah. I was thinking of the Fairphone 6 for that case, actually.

But if your threat model is higher, or if you want to support people with higher threat models, or want to prioritise security, I think GOS seems better. My worry is primarily about the ethics of a Motorola or Pixel, considering where Motorola is based and who owns it.

  • They are, yes. But it feels all very paradoxical.

A company owned by a country with pervasive surveillance, set in a country with pervasive surveillance laws, cooperating with a OS developer for anti-surveillance measures.

Granted, I could see that from places with pervasive surveillance, a need arises for something that removes all that surveillance. But then, would governments not be harsh on that?

  • For people in the Netherlands and Belgium: Bol.com.

For elsewhere: AliExpress, Temu, Vinted (European).

    For more specialised services:

    Furniture: IKEA (Swedish)
    Clothes: Zalando (German)
Food delivery: Jumia (German), HelloFresh (German).

Generally, it’s best to buy directly from the companies themselves. Buy from small or mid-sized companies. You’ll skip on the high prices that way, as there’s no markup. Additionally, since you are not one of millions of consumers - but one of a few hundred, they will care more about you.

  • For some extra existential crisis, consider this.

In 1x1010^56 years, a new big bang could occur in the universe, through quantum tunneling.

If you multiply that with all possible ways in which all subatomic particles in the observable universe could be arranged (1x10^115), that might be a possible timeframe for a new universe exactly like ours.

That is, a universe in where you posted that comment, and I’m writing this right now. Maybe we’re doing that a few seconds differently, but overall it’s the same universe.

From what I read the issues can give wildly differing results, though.

    That said, I’d wage that if they played it accordingly to their own IRL beliefs, most normal people would fall anywhere inbetween these;

    • Inoffensive Centrist Democracy
    • Democratic Socialists
    • New York Times Democracy
    • Left-Leaning College State
    • Civil Rights Lovefest
    • Scandinavian Liberal Paradise* (really should be labelled “Scandinavian Social Democrat Paradise”)

  • "This glass shines. It does so by guiding extremely tiny kernels (which repel from others) through a sort of ‘road’ where they pass easier. This road leads to itself only.

There is a place that pushes these kernels away to an area on that road they’re pulled towards. When it encounters a sort of barrier, it hits that, and splats like a fruit; that’s light."

    Or put even easier:

“There’s a place that makes tiny kernels. Those kernels are thrown from that place, following a path; when they hit their target, they scatter, giving light.”

    Edit: replaced tomato with fruit.

  • Comrade, you may dislike China; and certainly it’s got its problems. It’s terrible indeed.

Yet where is the USA, if the American president supports UnitedHealthcare? Where is the USA, when its leaders siphon money from you, and try to tell you you’re one of them, when you clearly aren’t? Where is the USA, when Trump hides all Epstein evidence away?

Has America ever actually let you improve? Can you develop yourself when you live in fear and panic?
