    I don’t think $89B is a credible number. I think the peak was $15B with the contemporary norm being $12B.

    That’s about $36 per capita. Except that 80% of Americans don’t have any overdraft fees ever.

    So for the 20% they do charge, it’s an annual average of $180/person.

    Honestly, overdraft fees should be banned or capped by the federal government to a specific amount over the prime rate.
