Maybe so, but consumer habits are changing up there. For example, I’ve heard there’s a LOT less interest in US booze up there, and it seems VERY unlikely to change the instant Trump’s bullshit ends. Some of those consumer habits will last years to decades.
As somebody who lives up there, I can tell you that all this is very performative. It doesn’t move the needle on the general trade imbalance. If Canada wanted to actually get serious about this then we’d be creating crown corps to kick start domestic industry.
