Ebert would’ve preferred a return to monarchy. His version of democracy and the party was the one that existed within the Prussian Kingdom and the German Empire.

While the Freikorps were the proto-nazis, in Ebert’s time they were still mostly just monarchists and military aristocracy who opposed the republic. They all hated the Nazis for being peasants, but agreed with their policies nonetheless.
