I installed “epson-inkjet-printer-escpr” via the AUR. Solved by @swab148. Thank you to everyone for answering! ❤️

Hi guys, I need some help with my printer, an Epson Ecotank ET-7750. I installed printer support during the installation, both normal CPUS and the HP stuff. But my printer isn’t recognised by the system automatically. If I try to add it with the tools in KDE Plasma or CPUS, it doesn’t recognise the driver correctly, it always wants to make it into a dot matrix printer. If I give it the commands to print, it does print when I set it as a dot matrix printer. But the bitmap is always a garbled mess. Basically it says in plain text “bitmap start” and then prints out meaningless symbols as if you were to take a picture and load it into a text editor. I came from PopOS 22.4 LTS and then I installed cachy this year. The printer did work perfectly with PopOS and they also use cups for printing. Am I missing a package? Can you guys help me please?
I’ve never used that printer or Cachy OS. That being said, I don’t think installing HP printer software will help with an Epson printer.
Epson do have printer drivers for linux and you can look up your specific printer download here https://download-center.epson.com/search/
I’ve been to that site too, and yes, I do also find the appropriate packages with it, but problem is it’s either RPM or DEB. Can I get the ESC/P-R driver on arch somehow? Preferably, I’d like to use Pacman, but as a desperate last resort, I’ll also use the AUR.
There’s two AUR packages with Epson ESC/P-R drivers, epson-inkjet-printer-escpr and epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2, each one has a different range of models. I use #2 for my ET-3830.
Most distros include a tool to convert or install packages from other formats. I’d look into that. I’ve never used Arch so unfortunately I can’t be more specific.
The
gutenprintpackage might have the driver you need. Otherwise, the AUR is your best option.Just be carefully with the AUR right now No hate to the AUR but a load of old packages got compromised so do some research before installing a package.
Sadly gutenprint does not support the ET-7750. :(
If you needed another inkjet, gutenprint drivers are good enough to find one on their list.
