Some Subnautica 2 players will never get over being unable to kill their way through the game, say the devs, but "it's an important and interesting constraint".
Yeah, designed right I can see it being fine. You can’t kill a rock falling towards you, you have to avoid it. As long as anything that could kill you is something that makes sense you would be unable to kill it then it seems fine to me.
If you can’t kill something that should be easy enough to kick to death then it comes across as odd.
there are defenses though. i don’t even see it as a “horror” game, more like “oh look there’s a gigantic monstrosity with 50 billion teeth. i think i just won’t go over there”
i haven’t felt like it’s similar to soma or amnesia or other titles where confronting scary things is kind of the whole point
The fact that you’re completely defenseless adds to the horror and fear and is a big part of what makes it such a great game.

I’m not an expert, but kicking something to death while underwater is probably pretty hard.
It also keeps the late game interesting as it’s impossible to be so OP you’re invulnerable

Okay, there are defenses. But without a way to eliminate the threat you’re constantly looking over your shoulder.
i mean i’m looking over my shoulder when i DO have a way to eliminate the threat, maybe even more so. but i get it. horror
