We will probably never see cheap gas again. Since the US is super behind on walkable and public transit this will hurt until we do.

The writing was on the wall BEFORE the war.

Worse? Who said this is a bad thing?

Calculate the cost of all the externalities and gas being less than $20 per gallon is a travesty!

It’s going to get a lot worse because oil companies are going to sell oil at global rates. There’s no chance of Trump admin putting caps on it.

So with a large percentage of people in America living close to paycheck - to - paycheck the price of gas and food increasing while income stays relatively stagnate. More and more are using credit to get by just for day to day stuff. With the current administration killing (killed) off any incentives for EVs along with a lack of charging infrastructure for them - the biggest being in apartments which is where many live due to the cost of buying a house is outrageous. How and what are they supposed to use for buying these more efficient vehicles ?

I’m not trying to be a dick with this its just not as easy as getting a more efficient car - and with gas prices continuing to go up more efficient cars will become more expensive and sought after as well.

Gee… it’s almost as if regardless of fuel costs, more efficient vehicles always make sense. This cyclical bullshit has been going on since the 70s, you would think idiots would have learned a lesson by now.

      1. New vehicles suck. Show me anything new, I’ll tell you why its shit.

      2. Because they’re shit and have garbage no one needs, they are insanely expensive.

If we must have electric, we need:

      1. Analog as possible. Preferably zero screens
      2. Zero connectivity.
      3. Repairable by me, the person who paid for the fucking thing.

That’ll never happen, so I’ll be using my old cars forever. Sad

This. I cannot abide these screen-laden spy machines. I just want a car with buttons and an electric engine, no “self-driving” or “smart” bullshit.

So what I’m reading is that gas is still very cheap in the US. Double the price would be a good start for any change to happen.

That’s still way cheaper than prices in Europe, even compared to pre war. In Germany you currently pay around 2.20€ per litre which is ~9.50$ per gallon.

Yeah but Europeans aren’t driving like Americans. Also the US heavily subsidizes the oil industry so we’re still paying those prices just not at the pump.

Hopefully a hell of a lot worse. Hopefully so bad people can’t afford gasoline. Imagine the fresh air. Looking forward to it.

Only EVs on the road? Imagine the silence. Fuck the dicks with the loud exhaust, its pointless and only there to annoy others and disturb the peace.

If you want to experience this and can afford it, go to Oslo or Bergen in Norway. Their cities are downright peaceful, it’s so weird to somebody from a car-centric location.
