Anyone that can put 2 and 2 together knows it’s not true. But the propaganda is necessary, because that’s all the US has left. Neoliberalism has hollowed out the US. It cannot keep up with economies not focused on maximizing profits. Also, imagine, if Iran is doing this to the US, what would China do. They could probably destroy all of NATO in less than a month if they wanted.
