brave enough to stand up to terfs, cowardly enough to shrink away from saying murdered trans women were FUCKING MURDERED.

      MURDERED. TRANS. WOMEN.

People don’t self-censor like that because they’re squeamish about the word. They self-censor like that because they’re trying to evade corporate social media content filters that would limit the visibility of their post.

to be fair the original headline is:

Artist uses Harry Potter books to create powerful portraits of murdered trans women

murd3red might just be from trying to circumvent censorship on other social media sites, I assume TikTok, but I’m not sure (I don’t use any social media like that).

this was probably made for posting on insta, youtube or some other shit platform thats to cowardly to call the things by their name. “advertisers don’t like it when we talk about (insert something violence or sex related)”. people will come up with the most unhinged words just to avoid having to deal with social media censorship.

Yeah, I understand the reasons. I just hate that people have decided to put up with this shit rather than leave those platforms. If a platform is censoring your posts for saying “die” or “vagina”, then that should be a sign that it’s time to abandon that platform. Yet people remain there and we end up with this complete wank.

it’s hard to have the same reach when you limit yourself to niche platforms tho. like sure, PinkNews could post exclusively to Pixelfed/PeerTube and not have to deal with censorship.

they’d also have to contend themselves with 12 followers… a hard pass when you’re a news org

      from the article:

Artist Tai Ericson, who lives in the US state of Vermont, began deconstructing the books to create the artworks in protest at JK Rowling’s views on trans people.

It looks like he cuts out letters from the pages and glues them together to form an image, you can see the detail on his website:

My biggest bet is that Tai Ericson (The artist of that portrait) got Harry Potter second-hand somewhere which I sometimes see them in charity shops.
