Is there any way to achieve the same level of anonymity on the Fediverse as 4chan offers?

Anonymity relies on other people using the same name. Otherwise you’ve just got pseudonymity, like me right now.

You can get the same end result with throwaways, but it’s a bit more time-taking on most instances since spammers have abused most of the instances without a signup manual approval.

You think you’re anonymous on 4chan? There are lemmy instances that are more anonymous than some boards on 4chan right now.

I googled your name and found you on multiple other social media. You can start by not identifying yourself immediately in your username. I’m not trying to be snarky, but anonymity starts by not broadcasting your identity.

It would be possible to set up an instance where users could post as guests, ie everyone who did that would appear as the same user, something like anon@lemmychan.social.

It is also likely that such accounts would soon be banned in many places because people will use them to post unwanted posts and comments.

4chan has fallen, they require email or 10 a minute cooldown for every post.

You wanna use something that hides your ip address with a burner email.

cant you just use a temp email service to register and call it a day?

everything in the fediverse is incredibly public (by design), so your access is the only thing youre really going to be able to obfuscate.

Eh, anonymity is great for some things, less so in others.

But burner emails are pretty much as anonymous as it gets on the fediverse. If you pick a random user name and cycle to a new account fairly often, you’re anonymous to other users. A VPN mostly anonymizes you from the instances.

Being real though, that’s kinda dickish to the instances because you’re wasting the tiny bit of resources used to create accounts. If you do it often enough to really anonymize, it adds up.
