I received messages about an account that wasn’t mine, to an email address that wasn’t even the one I used back when I still had Discord.

It seems to be them, their address is correct, and is properly signed as far as I can tell.

What is even going on here. Come on, Discord.

    I got this too.

I have a Discord account. But I was never able to use it because they demanded that I enter a phone number. Can’t do that, I dont have a phone number for security reasons.

And then they have the audacity to mention GDPR compliance in their FAQ. Absolutely fucking nothing they do has anything to do with GDPR compliance.

FYI, that first screenshot is probably sufficient to make out your name, in case that’s your actual name

Could’ve done that a bit better, that’s true. It’s not even my own name, which is why I painted over it in the first place

Similar thing happened to my sister. She got an email from a one of the biggest online shopping websites here where she doesn’t have an account. Someone created an account with her email, she got a buying confirmation mail. Then we used forgot password link and login to that account. We can see everything, their address credit card number phone number etc.

She called them and learned that they have the same email address but on hotmail. Stupid people. Stupid online shopping website.

since you haven’t used it in a while, perhaps it was hacked and the email changed without your knowledge. I had some of my accounts hacked a while ago when my phone was compromised and unless you stay on top of that stuff they can delete the notification email quick. discord especially is not only horrible for privacy but a haven for hackers and generally shady people

The name they addressed this to is not what mine ever was, and I requested deletion for my actual account over two years ago. Got the confirmation shortly after, so I’d hope my account is actually gone.

Well, as gone as it can be, with Discord probably keeping everything anyway.

Discord was (is?) rather aggressive about setting up new accounts. You could have clicked an invite link two years ago and it associated with your email and generated an account.

I received the same two messages but with an alt account that was actually mine and haven’t used in like 2 years. Strange…

I am just trying to make sure I understand that the average Lemmy user doesn’t believe in unsubscribing and blocking an email and instead would rather just bitch about how they are getting emails from a source they could block just so they can talk about privacy and intrusive companies. However those same users who have the privacy experience and “knowledge” have the same issues from the sounds of it.

Ah yes, let me unsubscribe from something that has nothing to do with a subscription

Of course I’ll block their address now, but that doesn’t mean I can’t post about it, maybe raise awareness about something that might happen at the moment.

Turns out I’m not the only one who got emails like this.
