I know it’s a meme but I have to talk about this.

Unironically a car is a weapon. Like, in a court of law, considered a weapon. People driving unsafely is equivalent to someone fucking around with a gun. It’s that empathy and compassion that makes people upset because that person driving unsafely can so easily end the lives of dozens of people who didn’t deserve it. Fuck cars and fuck unsafe drivers.

In theory. In practice? A car is the best way to kill someone and get away scot-free, or with only a slap on the wrist as punishment.

Yeah unfortunately here in Australia we’ve got far too many cases of drivers killing cyclists and getting away scot free, too. Sometimes that’s because the police fuck up and it doesn’t even make it to court. Sometimes it’s because our legal system (including juries) just don’t care enough. Always it’s because it’s impossible to hold transport engineers and city councillors legally accountable for their failures.

There was just another crash today - a driver drove into a group of cyclists, killing one, and hit a tree.

In this case, the driver has also been killed by it. It’s not exactly clear what happened. May have been a medical episode or swerving to dodge a roo or something.

And that goes quadruple for truck drivers, especially those who take stimulant drugs to not sleep and drive more, in an impaired state.
They are a plague of recklessness, like rogue missiles.

Using ballpark figures, let’s say one out of every fifty vehicles is a truck, but where I live, trucks are involved in one out of every five accidents.

90% of drivers say they are a “above avarage” driver. You are most likely part of the issue, you just don’t get to hear the excuses the other drivers make up in their heads.

I’ve found multiple sources for the 90% thing, not the original tho, so not sharing.

If you’re ever confused by how poorly people drive, sit somewhere with a lot of foot traffic for a bit and observe how so many people can’t even walk in a way that makes sense or without being a rude POS. Adding a vehicle to the equation only increases the stakes.

Merging is different than changing lanes, PSA.

If you’re super slow and trying to change into my lane I’m definitely going to speed up so you end up behind me. Unless we’re all stopping at a light or something.
