As a user living in Norway, I can say that nothing has changed yet and Meta still does whatever the fuck they want. I use it Facebook from time to time and Facebook still shows me ads related to what I do in an out of Facebook. Even when I use adblockers in all my devices and alternative search engines like Duckduckgo or Ecosia, they still know what are my new interests in and out of facebook and keep showing me personalized ads. I even disabled within facebook to track me outside of facebook. Nothing works for them.
Am I missing something? Norway is not part of the EU and therefore Facebook does not have to apply EU regulations to their products for Norway customers. How does Norway handle those things in general? Does Norway apply a lot of Regulations (for example) for Pesticides and Environmental Regulation mostly verbatim to their own code shortly after the EU or do you have debates/votes/referendums regarding those topics in your own political spheres? I know that Norway is very far ahead when it comes to securing their environmental treasures. But I have no idea if or how Norway applies for advancements in customer protection regulations like the GDPR* and such
EDIT:
So, I do not know why Facebook is showing you Ads that sound like they break the EEA GDPR. Maybe you should report this to your local/national data security office or customer protection office.
@Alperto @SamsonSeinfelder There is “the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement”:
norway.no/en/missions/eu/areas…
From the article: “Recently, Meta told EU regulators that making this change represented a “significant hurdle” for Meta and noted that it will “require at least three months to implement,” the WSJ reported. That’s why it seems like making the update by the end of October might be an ambitious deadline.”
Looks, like EU gave them a deadline for end of October to implement the change.
The offsite tracking is really bad. Best we can do is report to Datatilsynet.
Considering I’m seeing a lot of data science ads there, and my wife is currently applying for a job as one, they seem to use IPs as identifier.
Normies/ Regulars feel safe as long as they can’t see who’s spying on them. That’s whats going on here. Majority of Boomers have no idea how internet works, Millennials are still trying to understand but at least are aware of the shit google and Facebook does.
Being said that, what you can do is use a service like nextdns and setup DNS at router level and add the DNS to your phone. Now Block Facebook and any services that are offered by Google and Facebook.
Also dont forget to delete your google and Facebook account.
You think that Millennials, the generation that grew up during the transition in to our “internet is everywhere” world, struggle to understand this?
Ok there kid.
Sure, cos all the boomers use Tiktok. Thankfully the millennials are aware of Chinese spying on them.
Stop saying bullshit like this. Every generation thinks they are smarter than the previous one and it’s not true: most individuals are ignorant and a minority are smart in every generation, no matter what or how old, but youth gives an exacerbated sense of self-confidence making them believe they can control and know everything. But they simply lack enough mistakes in life to become humble and careful before talking.
When you think again about boomers, remember that THEY MADE THE FUCKING INTERNET.
Lol not every boomer created the internet. May be handful of em not ALL. You should see the boomers at my work ,only god know how they come to work everyday without knowing how to use a fucking mouse.
and not every millennial can fix a computer. That’s my point
True but at least they know how to use it.
Not using it helps a lot, but I get your point.
