Please excuse all the replies, I just love discussing the movie. It’s still one of my favorites, but I would love to see some other production company film a different ending and release an alternate version with a powerful ending. Think how “Arrival” (Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner) made you feel at the end. I feel like “They Live” could’ve been that good, but maybe it was before it’s time, and they had to cater to the box office of the time.

The fight scene where the main character was trying to get Keith David’s character to try on the glasses… that was legendary. I’ve never seen another (serious) fight scene come close to how hard it made me laugh. 10/10 for that. I imagine Roddy was so familiar with fight choreography from being a professional wrestler that he just got the green light to go ALL OUT and both actors nailed it.

I wonder what the original screenplay looked like. It starts so powerfully, but takes such a vivid downturn at the end to appeal to the masses demanding shootouts and explosions. I suspect the ending was rewritten in order to get green lit for production, because the original ending might’ve been too cerebral for general audiences. I imagine the original ending probably made you think, and generally that’s not what the masses like from their movies. Kind of ironic considering the plot of the film, don’t you think?

The premise was powerful, the plot and character development were good, but it seems like the ending of the screenplay got rewritten, and it wound up being a standard issue Rambo-style shoot em up, when it had the opportunity to end on a different, more powerful note that left the viewer thinking about how this relates to themselves, and our own society.

Have you ever tried just not having swap? Maybe don’t have a swap partition and see what results you get. I think there’s even a command that turns your swap completely off, too. Google “swapoff”. Good luck my friend.
I don’t think that means what you think that means
I hope to God you mean black licorice
And Old Spice flavored candy would be absolutely dimented

People even want to make an archive of TV commercials, don’t undersell what you have. You might have the only known copy of a particular commercial that somebody wants. Check out sites like my80stv.com to see one of the ways archived old commercials are used.

It’s truly a sad day in this series of tubes when being serious is the exception rather than the rule.

I’m just sick of the droves of low effort jokes on reddit. If you don’t have any content to add, then shut the fuck up.
Just to add a little bit more, the best I’ve come to manually reproducing this effect on my own is through long bouts of exercise. Maybe it’s the same effect as the “runner’s high”. I used to be a firefighter and I’d experience a similar effect when I would spend all day outside doing PT (physical training). Come 5 o’clock, after 8 hours of exercise, everyone would be dying, and I’d be experiencing a euphoric boost of energy, and I’d help all the instructors clean up the training grounds. Whenever I’d stop, I would crash, hard. It’s possible for me to feel this feeling through exercise, it’s just impractical to devote 8 hours a day to exercise in order for me to feel it.
In theory, it’s fully under your control whether you experience this feeling or not. I have a degree in psychology and the best I can explain it is that the sleep deprivation alters your brain chemistry (kind of like antidepressants do) and it changes your perception of reality. The way I experience this effect so strongly, it almost changes me into a different person… an optimistic, happy, extroverted person. Maybe it’s endorphins being released due to your body being overworked and going into an emergency mode. It sucks that I eventually have to go to sleep, where your cerebrospinal fluid washes your brain and “resets” it back to baseline. If I could only retain that sense of enlightenment and hopefulness I experience when stay up so absurdly long, I know I would be a better person. I really believe it’s due to the altered brain chemistry, I just don’t know exactly what it is. Maybe it’s due to your sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the flight or fight (emergency) response that we have, which releases adrenaline, among other brain chemicals (neurotransmitters). Good luck in your pursuit of finding the answer, I’d love to know more about whatever this effect is.
I experience this EXACT same thing when I stay up until sunrise the next day. It’s feels like my brain chemistry changes and everything will be good. I wish I could hang on to this feeling. I’m in my early 40s and I first started noticing this effect in my early 20s. I didn’t know other people experienced it!
It’s “moit”, moit!
