Sure, I wish things were different. But, CS1 took years to become what it is. They started again from the ground up, it’s going to take a while to get there. I’m giving it some time.
I think the point is that if one needs to read a thousand pages of documentation before they can start using a new operating system they will just give up regardless of how good it is.
Installing packages is probably one of the first things you’d want to do so there is a lot of value in keeping its design intuitive.
The ‘you can make an alias or script for it’ argument only works if someone already has a working understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Which you can assume it someone gradually gets introduced to a Programme, but not if they are making a big switch like installing a new OS.
I think you are more than welcome to make a Fork and do this. You can backport all fixes and not implement new features.
I think new features is one of the core reasons the projects gets more contributors, and it sorely needs those. I understand why the focus is now on that.
If you want stability, I’d suggest maybe finding some likely minded people and go and maintain a Long Term Stable version.
I know the Danish OS2 foundation maintains a distro explicitly for Public computers in libraries.
Your point was not about his stuff but about his person. I read up on them and see it is a terrible, uncompassionate and frankly hateful person. That is not for me.
I didn’t know who he was. After just reading his Wikipedia page I really understand why people hate him. I think I might as well.
