I recently decided to watch this 4-part ONA after seeing a post on Reddit praising its cinematography and finding out that it’s available subtitled on YouTube for free.

What can I say, that poster was absolutely right. This show is visually absolutely stunning. I usually think of myself as someone who doesn’t place too much emphasis on animation quality, focusing more on the storytelling and characters instead. But despite being quite simple in the latter two departments, Pretty Derby managed to really pull me in.

Not only are the races animated so amazingly that I was literally at the edge of my seat. Also in quiet moments, the facial expressions, music, voice acting and (yes again:) cinematography came together to make a really captivating experience.

8/10 Did not expect “stupid horse girls” to make me cry so much.
