Shouldn’t the older people be more educated if it was only gutted in the 1980s? My impression is that they are even less educated than the younger generations.

How do you figure? We have millions of ignorant voters reliant on politicians to tell them how to feel. Without this, there would be no Republican Party.

Unfortunately, there probably would be. Hopefully it would be less popular, but some people just non-ironically think that way. Disturbing, but reality.

Only for the majority, not for those who had existing money and power. For those people it just solidified their positions in the ruling class.
No matter how short-sighted that is.

Why? It created a nation of blithering idiots willing to threaten people with murder over daring to mention something they refuse to understand.

its working exactly as it was intended to.

When did mandatory state education ever serve people’s needs? School has always taught only what was needed to serve our masters.

In a better world, the cops would have given a shit and tracked down the assholes threatening a TV meteorologist.

“It was ‘I am going to kill you’ written in a very deliberate way in a long letter and followed by obsessive emails,” said Gloninger. His critic demanded that he “go the hell back to where you came from DOUCHEBAG!!!” and demanded “what’s your home address, we conservative Iowans would like to give you an Iowan welcome you will never forget.” The emails attacked Gloninger for pushing a “liberal conspiracy theory on the weather”, calling climate change a “Biden hoax”.

You mean when they projected their evil on others, to make them the enemy?

yeah, I remember. They’ve been doing it in some form for decades.

Conservatives may not believe in climate change, but climate change definitely believes in them, we’re all fucked and these idiots are an anchor around our necks.

As someone with family from Iowa, there really is a point we have to realize you can’t fix stupid and do something about it before we find out Idiocracy was a documentary.

Welcome to Iowa, a backwards shithole run by fascists. You know it’s bad because Desantis said he would consider Reynolds for running mate. An endorsement like that speaks volumes.

Wait, oh, this post went through. I was going to post it and then gave up as it does not fully qualify as “news”, oh well.

I think it’s news, but maybe not worldnews? Like an Iowa meteorologist getting death threats is notable, but I worry worldnews is going to end up just being American internal politics along with all the other news communities.

Please only post links to actual news sources, no tabloid sites, etc

You don’t consider The Guardian an actual news source?

I’ve gotten death threats and stalked before. I still am stalked. It’s pretty weird. Definitely have PTSD from it. The whole ordeal has been pointless. Cops don’t even care when I ask for help.

Hey I think they’re basically supporting what you’re saying with a kind of rueful sarcasm. As in “not only are you correct that the we’re in a shitty state of things, but worse still it’s been that way for a long time.”

Wow he got a death threat in an email, which also asked for his address lmao.

Poor guy. First day on the internet must be tough.

If you receive a death threat that you think is real, you contact the police and the FBI. But considering that the man who was threatening him didn’t even know his address, I struggle to think how he thought it was an actionable threat.
