“Rules based order” is the most Orwellian phrase; ithose using it are trying to evoke the positive connotations of “international law” without actually being expected to follow international law themselves.

Don’t worry guys, if we ever discover FTL space travel, the USA has a plan in place to ensure outer space will remain a corporate monopoly just like on Earth ^/s

Speaking at the paper’s launch, Bridenstine believed it was important to create communication channels, noting that Nasa was not allowed to directly engage with its Chinese counterpart without congressional approval.

Critical support for the US govt. ostracizing itself for sinophobic and anti-communist attitudes held by geriatric white supremacists and genocide enjoyers.

The US should be banned from the international space field. All they think about is colonization and atrocity. China is much better suited for coordinating space expeditions with other nations.

I don’t know if this is suppossed to be a meta-commentary/joke or not. I never said both of those things.

China is more suited for space coordination because of its productive capacity and cooperation with other nations. China will not seek to “own” outer space but to instead integrate space travel as a way to benefit itself and the world. China can care for its citizens, the US is quickly losing the ability/will to do so.

Why not try to reflect on the fact that the US only cares about space travel when China seems to overtake them ever so slightly?

I don’t care what you really feel about China, but to interpret my support for China leading the space field as ignorance is just projection.

Can we apply this methodology of Chinas in how they treat their neighbors, and “wont seek to “own” outer-space” and do so at the benefit of the world and compare it to how they treat Taiwan, Hong Kong, and international waters? Oh to shreds you say?

Taiwan and Hong Kong were ripped away from China by European colonists, you ignoramus. Hong Kong was occupied as a British colony after the British dominated China during the Opium Wars, you know, that century that started when China decided to ban opium since the Europeans had gotten 60% of the Chinese population addicted and Britain decided to run gun boats through the coast terrorizing and destroying until they sacked the capital, stole and destroyed priceless history, and then forced the Chinese at gun point to re-legalize the drug AND grant ALL Europeans immunity from Chinese law within the 5 major ports?

Taiwan was the last theater of the Chinese civil war until the British and US navies intervened to protect the KMT and their favored comprador, Chiang Kai Shek. They wanted to ensure another Chinese army could go back and take over from the communists eventually so they protected, funded, and armed the KMT while it prosecuted the White Terror for 40 years, killing hundreds of thousands of political dissidents and indigenous Taiwanese.

Returning Hong Kong and Taiwan to their integrated status with China is DECOLONIZATION

No, you can’t give context. China bad! /s

On a serious note, reading a while back about what happened during the opium wars was horrendous. And also finding out that South Korea was governed by murderous fascists until very fairly recently, while the US was supporting the South Korean regime was also an eye opener to me.

No one in the region considers the South China Sea to be international waters.

Everyone just disputes who’s waters they should be. Don’t talk about things you know nothing about.

What… If you think China supports it’s citizens and cooperates with the international community any better than the United States, and doesn’t have a colonialist agenda, you’re either speaking in bad faith or just terribly ignorant. We can sit here all day with whataboutisms, and comparison, but the truth is China is no more suited and, AT LEAST, just as ill intentioned.

Are these the same global south countries that China is building things at prices they know they can’t pay back so that they can seize them later or the China that is currently trying to take over huge parts of the ocean that belong to others under international law?

Typical projection. China is not charging the usury rates & terms that the IMF and World Bank famously do in order to put Global South countries into debt traps. And they’re not creating 800+ extraterritorial military bases to enforce them like the US has.

Even The Atlantic, voice of the colonists, wrote a deep piece debunking the Chinese debt trap. China has forgiven sooooo much debt to other nations it’s laughable you could even make this post without blushing.

Is China shipping billions of dollars in weapons to Israel as they, in 3 months, have dwarfed Ukrainian civilian casualties over 2 years? No? Well…

Did China instigate a coup of Pakistan’s democratically-elected leader? No?

Is China the only country voting against the Right to Food pursuant to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 25)? No?

            Hm.

China will not seek to “own” outer space

Let’s see China get out of other nations’ ocean space first and then we can talk about outer space.

banned from the international space field

Oh please. As if that’s a US problem and not a human with power problem. It’s not that crazy that the gov is making sure nasa checks with them before working hand in hand with international countries that aren’t exactly allies and may require some democratic work and thus need approval from congress. Yeah it’s dumb but it’s also understandable given the greater context and related risks

China is much better suited for coordinating… with other nations

So, what, is China not also guilty of genocide and colonization? Tell that to the Uyghurs, the Tibetans, or even just the countries pulling out of the belt and road initiative. China is just as guilty in regards to genocide and they have certainly had their fill of colonization. They’ve been working on taking Taiwan back just like Russia is with Ukraine. You do realize that China is a very racist/xenophobic country right?

If you ban the US you need to ban China and Russia too for the exact same reasons, along with many other countries.

Good thing that’s not how that works.
