Edit: After reading the recommendations & arguments at arkenfox, I have opted to remove CookieAutoDelete as well as PrivacyBadger and CanvasBlocker. Instead I have:
- set Enhanced Tracking Protection to “Strict”;
- setup uBlock Origin to level “medium”;
- tweaked some extra
about:configentries as recommended here and here, except forprivacy.resistFingerprinting.
I’ll also consider setting network.cookie.lifetimePolicy to 2 for having all cookies session-only (apart from whitelisted ones).
I observe a much faster loading of the pages now!

My preference is to immediately remove cookies from domains, as soon as (or just some seconds after) a tab with that domain is closed. Except some whitelisted domains specified by me.
To do this, I’ve used – for years – Cookie Autodelete. But I’ve discovered now that it doesn’t work with Firefox’s Strict Mode (the extension says “strict mode is not supported”).
All in all I think my understanding of Firefox’s capabilities and policies regarding cookies and similar extensions is outdated. I’d be grateful to anyone who can offer insights or links to well-informed sites about this.
Temporary Containers is a bit clunky, but it achieves the same goal using native Firefox mechanisms, so I assume that it works for ETP Strict too.

This is almost certainly what OP wants.
Cookies are just one kind of persistent data. And some sites intentionally disrespect boundaries.

fwiw, there are extensions out there that do the same things that strict mode does so it’s possible to use them along with cookie autodelete – that’s why i do.
I’ve used the forget me not add-on and didn’t have any problems with it so faar, not sure about strict mode though. Its mostly been set and forget for me
Thank you for this suggestion. It looks good, but I see that its last update was 6 years ago. Sadly all or most extensions with this kind of functionality seem to have been abandoned…
Haven’t tried it myself. As far as I know there is no way to do this in Firefox outta the box or with any setting.
