I have a large MP3 list and don’t always want to make playlists 1 song/folder at a time. Came across FolderPlay as an option that should allow me to drop the root of my MP3 folder in and play all the songs, except it does not have normalization abilities (problem: my MP3s are a mess of different qualities and loudness levels, weren’t the 00s a fun time).

Has anyone used this app yet, or know of another that is a little less minimalist? Two important features for me would be “randomization” of the playlist and the automatic normalization of audio, not so important but nice to have feature would be a bass and treble adjustment.

EDIT: Tested Audacious and it does everything I need.

Loved FolderPlay but eventually switched to VLC on Android for same reasons you stated. For mp3 its even better then VLC on the desktop.

    I do the mp3 ID3 tagging chores tho …

    VLC?

That’ll play subfolders, randomly and with normalisation… although I’ve not really used the normalisation much, just played with it a few times when yoochoob downloads were all mismatched.

You have two problems (three if you count MP3’s).

    • Foobar2000 has a replay gain scanner system that can scan your files and add a replay gain tag to them which a music player can use to normalize the loudness.

    • Audacious allows you to open a folder and play all files inside and has replay gain support.

Oh I have way more than 3 problems, hehe.

      Foobar2000 has a replay gain

I will have to check this out

      Audacious allows you to…

So, in audacious, I can drop my mp3 folder and it will play all music in all sub folders? That would be great and a more well known player. Thanks

    mpv --no-video --shuffle dir/*.mp3

Or --profile audio-only and put them in a [audio-only] in the config, also the normalization options. You can also set respective keyboard shortcuts and add a mpris plugin.

Is what i use at least.
