I’m Yakuza_Wolf_ReRise and I just migrated here from Reddit (I went by the name u/Yakuza-Wolf_Kiwami). To briefly explain what happened, I had a couple of imposters pretending to be me to do some dirty deeds, leading to my account to be suspended. I can’t go too deep into details, but that’s the basic jist of it. So I came here as an “alternative” to reddit up until my account is back and running.

So, what can I do around these parts?

Hey friend! Welcome to Lemmy, what can you do around here? Well, it’s like reddit but without the censorship or weirdo CEOs! Enjoy your stay!

Adding to what other have said - look at the different post sorts. I recommend either scaled (score, but taking sub size I to account) or recent comments. There is less activity general here (less people), so get engaged!

In short: Rebel like a communist

    1. Post news articles to mock the US or NATO.
    2. Praise any country or organization that’s outside of US influence,
so PRC/CPC, Palestine, Iran/IRCG, Yemen/Ansar Allah, Lebanon/Hezbollah, DPRK or Russia/ЕР/YR, although the latter is controversial here.
    3. Tell everyone that you hate AI and get praised for it.
    4. Talk about how you recently switched to Linux.
    5. Try to popularize currently unconventional words in the Usonian Burger Reich language or funky writing styles like ðis for political purposes or if you just have a Þing for it.

Well… you can make posts, and read posts, and also comment on posts.

The whole intro thing is a bit odd. Reddit uses AI to auto ban people constantly if the AI guesses you’re saying something naughty. You don’t really need to walk in and justify why you’re here. Plus you’re making it very clear that you don’t want to be here anyway, and plan to bail as soon as you can go back there.

It’s pretty much like walking in to a bar and telling a lady that you’re married, but your wife isn’t speaking with you at the moment so you’re looking for someone to use for a short while to keep yourself from feeling bored but plan to blow them off the minute you can.

A lot of people find the .ml domain to be a red flag. (See what I did there?)

The .ml stands for Marxist Leninist and many users from the domain are active communists.

Two of them (?) are the people who make Lemmy. I’d like to thank them.

Long and short of it is that you may be blocked by instances and/or users simply because off being on .ml

It’s a bit sad and a bit complicated, to be honest.

I personally love wandering over to other people’s instances and having a look around. As long as your not combative nor offensive most places here are quite welcoming.

    Enjoy.

You could start by reading a community’s rules before posting to it.

    1. Not regarding using or support for Lemmy: context, see the list of support communities and tools for finding communities below

The best way to browse is by subscribed communities, in my opinion. Check them out in the menu at the top. Local coms are the ones on your instance. They’ll be arranged by most popular to least, so keep in mind that the ones at the bottom might be abandoned. This is a much smaller place than reddit.

Make sure you check out the rules in the sidebars before posting or commenting. Each community will have different rules ranging from common sense to performance art.

You can also migrate to other federated instances, I moved to Beehaw because people who have political identities as a personality are … just not great, and there is a lot less bullshit there.

You still get the feeds from the ragebaiters but its a lot less.

I enjoy seeing the news from around the world (a little less US centric).

This isn’t the right place for your post, but that’s okay. Lemmy is way more spread out than Reddit, so you should make a post like this in every community you intend to use. They’ll be named like the subs you used to like. You’ll find the people you’re looking for much faster that way.

I love that you just advised going to every community and announcing that they exist like it’s their first day in kindergarten. You probably meant that last sentence perfectly innocently like a kind person would, but after thinking that it read as an absolutely beautiful underhanded barb.
