Just go to some barely controlled parts of the Amazon rainforest and there will be no one to bother you about not having permission to hunt or gather, well, except maybe the snakes or the spiders or basically every other animal that lives there. That wouldn’t work because of the curse of knowledge of what modern life feels like which is impossible to set aside. Since you are aware of hot showers, soft beds, painkillers, and the safety of a locked door, every moment in the forest would be measured against that. But it would be a completely different story if you had grown up in that environment and living off the land was all you had ever known. It would simply be life with no other standard to measure it against. Our minds are ultimately a product of our material conditions, they don’t just exist in a vacuum, we are actively shaped by our environment.
