      Knowing how China plays the long game these could be early experiments to see if they can start growing food at the moon base China is planning. That would cut down costs immensely for long term habitation.

      If China managed to bootstrap food production and some industry the base could be largely self sufficient.

        That’s what I was wondering because I thought rice is necessarily water intensive, so enough to maintain even a small population (assuming water requirements are true) in space has me boggled. I can’t wait to learn more!

          Same, and rice definitely makes sense if you have access to a local source of water which we know is possible on the moon. Next decade will be exciting.
