Everyone else uses a term in a certain way, maybe it’s time to just update your connotation to the word and accept it. This isn’t always what you should do when everyone else is doing something or other, of course, but I feel like in this case this isn’t a hill worth dying on. Maybe you feel differently.
I get your point but I’m not going to pull out my whole resume when, at the end of the day, I write software for a living.
Programmer is shorter and more honest than software engineer, tho
True. It doesn’t include my (legally recognised) title, however
Programmers and Software Engineers are different things, tho
Programmers and Engineers are different things, tho
Yes. But software engineers are engineers. Not all programmers are software engineers.
Not all software engineers are engineers and furthermore software isn’t an engineering discipline to begin with.
Wut bud
That’s why I take offense to the use of the phrase. Welcome to the discussion.

Oh shit, today I learned that software can’t be a complex system. That makes our jobs easier. I’ll be sure to tell IEEE.
I didn’t say it cannot simply that when it is it becomes computer engineering work, which software and programming inherently are not.
Huh?
