I’ve been working really hard those past 3 months to deliver what I can consider to be the best android IPTV app; fully open-source, intuitive, bloat-free and ultra-fast. Today, I release Fred TV 2.0 on the playstore!
- Optimized to be the fastest IPTV app out there, with a fully re-written backend made in Rust.
- Full Android TV support, D-Pad support on every view
- New easy-to-use redesigned TV Home for Android TV
- Robust playback, even on shoddy streams and on low-end devices
- Full support for Xtream and M3U
Try it out! You won’t regret giving it a shot if you’re already using other IPTV apps.
If you had tried the app previously under 1.X.X, please try it again, 2.0 is a massive upgrade.

This is fantastic! Loaded on my konstakang android tv box, loaded the m3u playlist below and countless options
Just as a quick test clicked Pluto TV cult films and works fantastic.
Of course, will now need find and favirites will take time, but huuuuge for me as I refuse pay any streaming services
Nice easy GUI, thank you!
Will it be on f-droid ?
Can you upload the apk on fdroid as well for easy install Obtanium had a lot of options and gives me option fatigue I don’t really like to use it Also I trust fdroid
FYI: F-Droid builds from source themselves. That makes them so trustworthy, but that’s also why it’s a bit more difficult for the maintainer to get their app accepted.
(not true if “just” using a F-Droid compatible repo).
Its on flathub btw
We talking about android
For those who don’t know this was formerly Open Tv. Quite literally the best out there.
Will the flatpack in 1.9.1 also be upgraded to 2.0?
Sorry for the confusion, there are two apps.
- Fred TV
- Fred TV Mobile (or Fred TV Next)
The first one is the original one on flathub just for desktop. It has the most features. The second one is a mobile/tv-friendly convergent flutter app that I, from this release, also publish for desktop via Releases for people who want a TV-Friendly UI but on PC.
If I get a lot of good feedback and Fred TV Mobile reaches parity with the original Fred TV, I will publish Fred TV Mobile as Fred TV Next on Flathub for PC
Just to be clear. The flatpak is free but the mobile one is $3,62?
Not judging, nothing wrong with FOSS getting sources of income to keep the work up. But I’m just trying to make sure I understand the rationale. What does the app exposes on users? because pay usually demands google play’s most privacy invasive services.
thank you for all of the hard work. really appreciate the new fetch speed on the android app
I love Fred TV! Simple, looks nice, VERY easy to use, installs on every linux distro I’ve run.
It automatically detects my incorrect URL formatting every time and offers to correct it for me. Saved my bacon when I didn’t know what I was doing.
I will check this out.
After Android TV support, next comes Android Auto support!
Nice, there you can watch it while you wait for the ambulance after killing three people with your SUV ☺️
I like convenience!
It just feels safer to me.
Dumb question, but my Samsung TV runs Tizen OS, and not Android. I would need an android streaming device to use your app rather than installing it on my TV somehow, right?
Yes
Thanks!
