Funny if it’s the frontend style framework only. Presuming it’s not “twitter bootstrap” anymore 🤣

That’s a pretty cool thing to do. But it’s disingenuous how he goes “don’t trust anything that isn’t open source” after having operated multiple businesses based on closed-source software for years. Wonder if he will also open up the code for Teslas…

I’m pretty sure only the frontend will release but no server code will be released.

You mean like last time when the whole world found out he added special privileges depending if the poster was Democrat, Republican or Elon Musk?

The uber-rich are jumping onto the opensource bandwagon due to the hype. Just wait. They don’t understand a thing about the philosophy but “free”. Free labor, free publicity, and a better public image for free.

So the only thing you can confidently say based on this information is: it’s 100% certain the entire codebase of Twitter will not be going open source.

Maybe the entire frontend so they can train on copyrighted data without punishment. Grok has been sassy with daddy and he is angry.

Let’s add it to the list of lies:

    • musk is a “free speech absolutist”
    • FSD next year!
    • E2EE chats in Xitter

    Keep it going!

If it’s not a lie, it’s not worth it anyway, we have better things now. I do love the boot lickers who want to help him though.

This just a ploy to feed Grok.

Also their code isn’t valuable. I want to see the algorithms and admins logs and bots.

isn’t the algorithm part of the code? or is that split off into a separate repo?

this is the idiot that took down twitter when he yeeted racks out of a data center and threw 'em into a u-haul… ones that were still powered on and used by the site. so anything’s possible… but i don’t think even he would be so stupid as to release the algorithms or his special ‘tweaks’ to them.

Yes, it could be part of the code but you are also correct they can separate it out.

It could be to crowd sourced bug fixes. I’m sure someone will be keen to give daddy musk all the help he needs.

If he goes through with this, just like they did with that AI algorithm a few years back, then that would be good for the people who use that dump.

        I don’t understand? Isn’t Mastodon a subset of ActivityPub?

Yes, Mastodon uses the activitypub protocol. That is basically my point, that we already have a ‘federated twitter.’ So, unless I’m missing something, what would be the point of forking and adding activitypub to twitter when we already have the better version in Mastodon?

I mean, I use GoToSocial, people like Sharkey or Akkoma.

Who knows, maybe someone would prefer twitter for some reason.

Plain old Mastodon does seem the better option though
