my intuition is more depressingly right than scarily right. ive spent a lot of time thinking about how people behave and how that relates to their internal state, thoughts, feelings, motivations, goals, etc. i notice when people are into each other very easily, and sometimes i even notice when someone is into me without them having to say it directly to my face (be jealous lol).

but the depressingly right part is at work. management is so predictably selfish and stupid, and their dumbass decisions have such obvious consequences, especially when theyre at the expense of workers. i work in a pretty technically demanding field with smart people, but every time they act like management is thinking and planning rationally and the thing i say is bad about the latest decision wont happen or wont be that bad. then its shocked pikachu when it turns out badly in just the way i said and its all “no one could have predicted this”.

sometimes its baffling how people never learn from this. management keeps being shortsighted and selfish, and most of my coworkers keep not seeing it coming. its happened at every job ive had so i dont see it getting any better. sometimes pattern recognition is just depressing when you cant do anything about it.

Oh I feel you there, what I’ve started to do is tell them they don’t get to complain because they got exactly what they wanted. I remind them that they knew this was going to happen and insist that they knew because I told them as much. Then every time they complain about it repeat that process. They either start listening or stop complaining. Either is an improvement over them complaining about their own choices.
