I first saw the Viera when I played Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and they were all ladies, which made for some really good yuri-society fanfic! And then Final Fantasy XIV introduced Viera boys. (I guess they were always implied, and they just never showed up on screen before, but phooey, I say!)
oh, the universe ended before FFXIV because i don’t want to pay for an online subscription. FFXIV is therefore noncanon, therefore no male viera. weird how that works.
Tbf you can play the base game and first 3 expansions entirely for free with no subscription; even if you just do the main story it’s a couple hundred hours of gameplay. For 95%+ of required instanced content, you can choose to do them with other players or with story-relevant NPCs.
