More than anything, I just want NTFS-style transparent compression on Ext4.
Yes, I know about btrfs, but its compression options incur too much of a performance hit, and overall it’s just not a reliable enough filesystem for daily use, IMO. If it ever gets a proper fsck equivalent, I may start considering it more seriously.

VFS maintainers decided it’s time to lay out documentation with more clear-cut guidelines for getting new file-systems upstreamed.
Not really the same situation as that xkcd. They are not creating a new fs.
