Hello everyone, nice to meet you all.

This question was probably asked around here but is it really possible to be your own mail provider?

I think I’m experienced enough when it comes to homelabbing that I could take on something like this.

I THINK im aware of the technicalities, I did some research but it still begs the question, is it really worth it? would it be hard to build up a reputation so that your emails don’t land in spam folders?

    I do it with mailcow. AFAIK gmail is the only provider still sending me directly to spam, which isn’t a problem for me. I probably send less than 10 emails per month total though. My ISP also hasn’t ever changed my public IP, so thats something to consider if your ISP does.

      Do you have a gMail account? Start a convo with yourself by sending from the gMail account first. Also add your other eMail to the gMail address book.

      It’s been about two decades since I had to do this for myself, but it worked well at the time.
