Imagine a world where they discontinue windows and just focus on azure Linux. I’ll keep dreaming

Microsoft has already contributed a shitton to the Linux kernel. So long as they don’t evict, only augment, it’s a good thing.

Besides, they killed their golden goose with windows 11 and are now looking for escape routes they can plan for.

Extend comes after Embrace; sure. Historically, guess what comes next.

Impossible and user-violating arbitrary standards pushed via legislation that only their OSes conveniently meet?

So what? It’s a bitch but you can port whatever you want to something else, ban Microsoft’s involvement and move on. They spend all this effort time and cash on ruining Linux and we’ll just more the BSD or Hurd. Microsoft will shift their targets back to BSD again and we move again. We can move cheaply. They can’t.

It was a long time ago, but I remember seeing that Microsoft contributed more to the Linux kernel than Canonical.

I’m pretty sure Microsoft has more people working on Linux stuff than Canonical has total employees.

Not particularly, but if their big OS was Linux based, people could get their corporate support, and most of the software keeping people locked into windows would theoretically be able to run on any Linux distro. That’s the dream. I want to run solid works on Linux natively

They ruin almost everything they touch. I don’t think you want their fingers on Fedora or any other Bistro. But that is just my old man opinion…

Yeah that’s fair, but at the same time, nothing has to go upstream as far as I know. As long as they have their own little sandbox to enshittify, I don’t care if I can get Linux support for my windows only programs

Fedora gets no funding and all the karen behaviour in their issues channel I bet. Working with a giant corporation as an open source project sounds like actual hell.
