    To use an interpersonal metaphor: this is the most prolonged and violent case of an abusive person not just letting their partner fucking leave I’ve ever seen

      this metaphor ignores the reasons why the war is happening and i’ll try to explain the reality of the situation by expanding upon the methaphor:

      if the two governments were partners once, then one of the partners was gaslit by another who openly admits to having maimed the other partner and intends to continue doing so by making the gaslit partner take a hostile stance towards the maimed partner and enabled some of both partner’s children into pogroming some of the other children that want to rejoin the maimed partner; so the maimed partner has stepped in to try to stop it.
