This is my pet theory as for why it’s so common in scifi for some ignorant Earthling to easily pilot a totally unfamiliar alien/futuristic spacecraft: as technology improves, so does ease of use. By the time a civilization has mastered interstellar travel and antigravity and so forth, a truly user-friendly interface is a solved problem.
Not to say anything stupid like “everyone is a little…”
But ideally all directions for everyone should be like that, and if they’re not you might as well realize they’ll be ignored.
This is why accessibility benefits everyone!
