Iranian state media has confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during the strikes the United States and Israel conducted on the country. NBC News' Gabe Gutierrez reports from the White House on what impact the leader's death could have on the country and region.
I can’t help but shake my head at how the media is covering this. Footage of Iranian Americans celebrating in the streets? I understand their jubilation at an objectively horrible piece of shit getting killed, lord knows I’ll be dancing in the streets when Trump meets his fate, but that elation over finally ridding Iran of the ayatollah came at the cost of over 80 innocent children’s lives. To kill a guy who didn’t have long left to live anyway… those kids had their entire lives ahead of them.
Not to mention the white house repeating over and over again that this won’t be a other 20 year was like Iraq, but they haven’t specified their endgame. If their goal was regime change, they will ultimately fail without boots on the ground to enforce it, and that’s not going to be a walk on the park like Trump and Miller think. Khamenei’s second in command will just take over and business will resume as usual, or things may possibly get worse with someone less predictable in charge.
Horribly irresponsible to do this without congressional approval and without even bothering to make the sell to the American people. Iran is not just going to let this go - war is now inevitable.
