This has been a contentious topic, sparking much debate but following the Governance post (feddit.org’s Zionist bar problem: community ban(s) vote), the Fediverse Anarchist Flotilla has decided to fully defedeate from from Feddit.org.

It follows a model of BDS from pro-Zionist/Israeli sources, showing that views such as genocide denial are not welcome in a polite society. This further backs up the FAF’s strong commitment to not supporting pro-Zionism as with its Golden Rule #8

Users had expressed some reservations around losing access to feddit.org communities, some of which have dbzer0 hosted alternatives such as !europe@lemmy.dbzer0.com, !buyfromeu@lemmy.dbzer0.com. Others can be found across the wider fediverse such as !buyeuropean@feddit.uk.

But wait, isn’t it un-Anarchist to not support complete free speech? Not at all my dear friend. Voluntary association is a core Anarchist principle, and as such exercising the freedom to stop associating with others is part of that. If the Feddit.org admin team decides to change their stance of support for Israel, perhaps the community may vote to refederate in the future.

I really hope there are better examples of the instance’s problems than what we got in the post. Most of the screenshots (emphasis on most. a few did illustrate exactly what the post said they illustrate) were just banning people for civility. You may oppose civility politics, but in that case I don’t think we should defed just because their moderation enforces civility. Here’s one example from the modlog:

And if you read two more words instead of instantly ragequitting like a little bitch, you would’ve realised that it’s an EXTRA aid package THEY can use, not that Israeli bases need to guard it. Literally just a humanitarian bridge that allows Gazans to access basic necessities from Israel…

Do you agree with this removal?

How about this comment our instance removed?

And if you read two more words instead of instantly ragequitting like a little bitch, you would’ve realised that it’s an EXTRA interface you CAN use, not that it’s Java based. Literally just a compatibility layer that allows Octave to interop with Java…

I trust Unruffled that there is much better evidence out there, but I can’t rest my hopes for such an impactful decision on civility politics. I really hope people come around with much more to chew on.
