SpaceX has revised its Starlink privacy policy to allow the use of customer data for AI training, a shift that could bolster Elon Musk’s AI ambitions.
What data exactly? I don’t know how Starlink works in terms of the user experience. Do you need to use a proxy or something? I’d assumed they simply provide and route IP? Because almost all IP traffic these days is SSL encrypted, that’s not really useful data for training AIs on.
SSL only works in transit.
Starlink can see raw data on their end.I thought the point of TLS / SSL was that the ISP would see only encrypted data. They can still see the sites you visit (due to IPs) but not the full path.
Under normal circumstances, yes. But it’s not full proof. Also TLS leaks a lot of data that is not raw content, so most ISPs don’t bother going further.
I was under the impression that Starlink intercepted and read the data packets through MitM technique, but as far as I can see that is not the case now. Might have changed or I was misinformed in the past.
Even if it’s encrypted starlink (isp) can still use other information such as times, IPs visited, volume of data.

Hmm, seems exactly like the kind of training data you might need to create an AI that does VPN traffic analysis to then sell to the likes of Palantir/autocrats
There is an opt out. Sign into your account, go to settings then privacy preferences and uncheck the AI training box.
Yeah, typical shitty opt out where 99% won’t even know about it. It should be mandatory opt in, but who am I kidding, right.
It’s always an opt out. Making it a mandatory opt in will never happen in the US.
That’s a lot of CSM.
I’m glad we don’t actually have sentient AI yet.
Cause feeding that with drone footage from Ukraine would not end well for the human race.
