So, we’re in 2026. The process of getting into a new year is mostly a busy, loud thing.

How do you do it? Do you have any ways of coping or getting around the stress?

For me it’s mostly limiting the amount of people and having a safe space to be able to go back to when needed. But I am pondering better methods.

Edit: I mean the new years eve, party and fireworks directly.

I wake up and try to remind myself to not write/type the old year anymore — unless I’m referring to something that happened last year.

Ooh, an autism community. Subbed (pending, it says). I’m high functioning but still on the spectrum. Just not entirely sure where. For some reason I thought this was an Ask Lemmy question. Either way, same answer.

I do have to do some shopping later, but I mostly mitigate that with AirPods. Even when they aren’t on, people treat me like they are. I can also enable this accessibility thing I found called “Live Listen” that amplifies everything around me. (Your iPhone mic can hear way more than you think it can! This is worth playing with just to understand how much a smartphone, any of them, can actually hear.) I don’t use it much because it gives me a headache, but sometimes I turn it on just to have that total immersion in the sounds around me, so I don’t have to look around as much.

Regarding NYE itself, I didn’t stay up. I did pop into Animal Crossing, where the fireworks there were mostly visual (with some light pops). I’m not bothered by fireworks though (or gunshots, I shoot paper targets recreationally), but I don’t like crowds. So I don’t do NYE stuff.
