Qualification:
I can’t take it anymore, I’m so sick of the fact that this AI is everywhere, and it’s not even possible to understand whether the product was created by it or a human. Recently, I have begun to understand what the human soul is in creativity, it is like a kind of connection, you feel through the screen what a person felt, who, for example, wrote a book, sometimes it touches the soul very much, so that life becomes more pleasant, but it only works when you know for sure that this book is entirely human-made without the help of AI.
As for AI-created art, I’m tired of it, and believe me, I’ve been soaking up content that can’t even be distinguished from human, but when I realize it’s fully AI or partially created, it makes me sick, I just want to forget that I’ve ever seen this horror, no matter how perfect it is, and no matter how much better or more beautiful it is than human-made art, you can call it the Uncanny Valley effect.
Heck, sometimes I just want to wake up to the 1990s, 2000s, or 2010s, where there wasn’t this AI that warps reality itself.
By the way, do you happen to know how to look for people who create art, for example, draw completely without AI, outside of Discord and those damn social networks? The fact is that lately I want not only to enjoy the art created by human, but also to communicate with those who create such art.
Just make it yourself. Everyone can be an artist. Let your own creativity flow instead of looking for others. There are no limits.
Yes, make friends with some artists and follow them around all day to witness them creating raw original art, then purchase the art directly from them.
Entirely by humans is a tough all. It removes most visual art as even the masters used paint and brushes. Check out live dance performances and choirs. They would qualify as entirely human art forms. Unless you include the lighting and costumes…
I hear you. It’s hard to trust that art you see is genuine art by people anymore, and it’s only going to get more difficult as these AIs swallow and plagiarise more and more of the human effort that they can.
I can’t give you easy advice on this. Find an artist you trust. Follow them. Learn to appreciate older artists who are dead. Learn to love fewer artists.
What I can tell you is this: take time away from the internet. This whole Generative AI boom has shown me that a disconcerting number of people, probably even the majority, honestly and seriously do not give a shit about authentic human effort and creativity. Being real, being authentic, being creative, any of the things you or I might view as essential to the human experience don’t matter to them. They want content to consume, and that’s that. Don’t give a shit where it comes from. Don’t give a shit what it means. Just stick it in front of their eyes for a few seconds before they move onto the next thing. It’s really fucked up.
So, go outside. Reconnect with your real friends, in contexts where these marketing machines can’t lie to you. Talk with human beings. I’ve started going to galleries in my area. I’m sober at the moment so I’m spending a lot of time working out at home or running. I went out to a film night screening Palestinian films made about the genocide. Met a lot of people there.
Get away from the internet when you can. It’s not a healthy place, and it can make people a little bit sick, I think. Make art for yourself.
Yeah sadly, the internet is dead. Better to go outside. Or try to find only niche home smallweb sites. Or use Gopher.
Local museums, galleries, and exhibitions for discovering art in-person.
Lemmy has a community for sharing art, !artshare@lemmy.world , and there might be more niche communities for specific art styles depending on what you’re looking for. Art communities on Reddit have some very talented members (you can use a front end to view them if you don’t have an account).
Artists that document their process and have art in the portfolio in a similar style from before AI took off are more likely to be genuine.
What kind of art? Digital art? Art made by local artists?
Digital art isn’t made entirely by humans. It’s using a computer.
Oh do stop it, you know what the OP means.
It’s such an arbitrary distinction. Humans create computers which can create art following human instruction. Whether that instruction is words or mouse clicks seems like a trivial difference.
Sure, it’s an arbitrary distinction to you. To me, not so much. Different feelings, I guess. 🤷♂️ Have a good one! ✌️
Go out of your house and ask random people politely if they know where to find artists in your local area.
Many will probably not know or care, but you’ll be surprised how quickly you find humans doing art this way.
Browsing various art platforms, when I see a user where I’m not entirely sure if their art is AI (usually I think I can tell immediately though), I check how old their profile is. If it’s older than 2024, I check how their art from before that year looks. If there hasn’t been a sudden and radical shift in style and skill, I consider the art human-made. Otherwise, likely AI.
That method might be a tad unfair to artists who are only starting out now, but I don’t know of any better way.
There’s a few tells that haven’t quite been fixed, like that airbrushed sheen that AI loves to overuse. Otherwise, you have to look really closely at it. Look at the tiny details because AI is still pretty bad at things like window panes/stained glass, fencing, jewelry, tattoos, small distant objects like telephone poles, etc. I’m even seeing these mistakes on products that have these graphics being sold in grocery stores.
Those “spot the differences/spot the mistakes” puzzle pictures we were given as children are coming in handy now.
