I’d like to rely less on my phone so that I don’t do the ritual where as soon as I wake up I’m doomscrooling on my phone, do you know of any cool, minimalist but with some features alarm clock out there?
As an inspiration this is a web site I like I’d love if it’d introduce an alarm clock because of its aesthetics and philosophy:
use.haus
Datetime.app is a self-hostable web page with a bunch of time-related tools. I don’t think it has an alarm clock so it won’t help you with this need, but i mention it in case you have other date/time tool needs.
Even though it’s not what I was asking for, it’s been the best response in the thread, it seems like a really cool web site. Thanks!
Get yourself a regular alarm clock if you want to rely less on your phone.
“When you’ve got a phone, every problem is an app”.
Agree, just buy an alarm clock.
Sounds like bunnie would have got you, but that was half a generation ago:
You could instead deactivate Wifi/Cellular on your phone to remind you not to doomscroll in bed. Cheapest solution I guess.
Possibly even use Tasker or such to automate waking up to an isolated phone.
Or any of the countless “digital health”/screen time management apps, to block social media in the mornings. (?)
If it’s for waking up at a scheduled time, why not go with a dedicated alarm clock that only needs a wall plug and maybe a backup battery?
Just put your phone on your dresser instead of by your bed.
You could always write one, it’s a trivial program.
what device are you connecting to an online alarm clock that doesn’t have one built in?
why more than double the things that could go wrong by requiring an internet connection, router, etc in addition to your non-phone device?
I feel like people might be misunderstanding the request. Are you after something like AlarmPi?

I like this one because I can shake and flip over my phone to snooze and dismiss the alarm. Comes in handy when I’m in bed and just slap the phone or just shake it while still in my pocket to turn it off
I would just use an old phone, either yours or maybe from your family. A dedicated alarm clock that stays at home and is always charged. It has only one job: alarming. No need to make yourself dependent on a random online website. This can be done offline.
Or even just a good old fashioned physical alarm clock
If you leave the phone on the charger for years, the battery will swell up and split the case or crack the screen.
i use ACCA for phones that are connected 24/7. works well
I prefer this one:
I used the default Android (not Google) clock for setting alarms for a while, since that’s what I had when I installed GrapheneOS.
But I feel you about wanting to not doomscroll, which I also took great efforts to get rid of. This resulted in me getting a cheap Casio watch that had an alarm setting, and now my wristwatch is my alarm.
Hope you find something that works for you!
