State Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell certified an initiative petition that aims to wipe out licensed adult-use cultivation and dispensary operations.
Cunningham and her fellow proponents of the petition can now start gathering the 74,574 signatures of registered voters they’ll need to submit to the Secretary of the Commonwealth by Dec. 3, 2025, to work toward qualifying for the ballot.
inb4 Massachusetts republicans pass a bill to rig the election in favor of this petition just like how Florida did a similar thing. Florida passed a bill where marijuana ballot initiatives needed a 60% to pass and no one fucking cared.
Oh I bet they can find that many if they try hard enough. It will be difficult though unless they lie about what the petition is for. Which is illegal in every state that allows ballot initiatives like this. And as with all signature petitions like that you really need 30% extra to compensate for ones that get thrown out. Duplicates from people signing multiple times, signatures missing voter info for verification, signatures on a form for one county but the voter is from a different county, etc. Hell even signing or writing outside the box is enough to be tossed in some states.
They won’t get nearly enough votes to actually pass it though even if they can get it on the ballot.
This is during a non-presidential election which is going to be more right-leaning than a presidential election. The anti marijauna crowd is already extremely ruthless about no compromising on their ideology and should not be underestimated. In most red states they’ve systematically made it impossible for anyone to consume marijuana and still hold a job that pays a living wage. Most employers care more that their employees aren’t using weed off duty than anything else, including skills and even including money. I’ve been working for nearly a decade to become educated and experienced enough to escape the bible belt so I can someday consume and still be allowed to participate in society. I may never even get there. So when I people being apathetic about this political issue, it makes me really upset.
If this passes, it’s going to spearhead a major push to really kick anyone who uses or cares about marijuana out of mainstream society to an even larger degree than what we already live with.
It may never pass fair and square, but it might be close enough that it won’t take much election fraud to change that.
Oh. Lol. Good luck with that.
I hope they get on the ballot. I want to see how lopsided the vote is.

The threshold was set in 2006 and the amendmnet applies to every constitutional amendment, not just weed.

Hey, Ohio lets you phrase ballot initiatives however Republicans want
