Ukraine has launched a “large-scale” drone attack against Russian military bombers in Siberia, striking more than 40 warplanes thousands of kilometres from its own territory, a security official said.

The claims could not be independently verified. But if confirmed, the attacks would mark Ukraine’s most damaging drone strike of the war to date, amid an escalation in cross-border incursions before planned peace talks in Istanbul on Monday.

“Ukrainian security services are carrying out a large-scale special operation aimed at destroying enemy bombers far from the front, in Russia,” the official was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying, adding a fire had broken out at the targeted Belaya airbase.

The video footage looks like very neat attacks on exclusively military targets so good job from Ukraine on this one.

Russia started when they invaded the Krim. All of Europe shrugged their shoulders because of cheap gas… Russia is quite clearly a fascist state so I really do not understand your apologies for it. It’s probably the only state that is more capitalist than the US, so why defending it?

Russia didn’t invade Crimea. They already had an agreement with the legitimate government of Ukraine to station a base there. Then when the west overthrew the government in a violent coup, Russia moved in to annex Crimea. Gotta put a bit more work into your propaganda there to make it more credible sounding champ.

Russia’s been bombing Ukrainian schools and hospitals, if Russia does retaliate I don’t think a drone attack on war planes is sufficient to call it “provoked”.

If you want to look at what bombing schools and hospitals actually looks like then look no further than Gaza and the genocide western regimes are openly supporting.

Why does everyone on this platform assume that just because I’m pro-Ukraine, I must automatically be pro-Israel (rhetorical question). I’m against any country trying to do a land grab at the cost of human lives.

And whataboutism with Israel doesn’t make Russia bombing schools and hospitals any better. Neither does Ukraine using them to house military equipment and personell.

I said it was rhetorical. I know the reason is because a lot of people here view the world in pro-America and anti-America with latter being “pure good” and the former “pure evil”.

I wonder what your opinion is on Afghanistan.

My opinion on Afghanistan is that it was a successful socialist country before the US destroyed it and brutalized its people ever since.

Nah, pretty sure these are the actual fascists

You’re like baby Goebbels thinking that if you just repeat your propaganda enough times it’ll become the truth.

Nah, I’m not changing any subject. I’m pointing out what it looks like when there are actual systemic attacks on civilians which aren’t happening in Ukraine. Screeching whataboutism is the attempt to change the subject.

Good way to use an ongoing genocide, to justify the deeds of your personal favorite imperial power.

I’m not justifying anything. I’m pointing out what actual attacks on civilians look like. There is zero evidence that Russia engages in systemic attacks on civilians in the war. In fact, civilian casualties in Ukraine are far lower than pretty much any modern war. Yet, here you are regurgitating propaganda for your favorite empire.

This sounds like an ingenious operation that has been reported to have taken one and a half years to come to fruition.

the operation involved hiding explosive-laden drones inside the roofs of wooden sheds and loading them onto trucks that were driven to the perimeter of the air bases.

Reports have claimed that Ukraine managed to smuggle modified truck containers, which were equipped with capabilities for launching drones, into Russian territory. These trucks were reportedly stationed near Russian nuclear bombers’ bases. Ukrainian drones were launched autonomously from the backs of containers, as per a report on Iran Observer.
